BUCKHANNON — What is it like to have a birthday during a global pandemic? Madelyn Tucker found out on her 10th birthday Thursday evening. Friends, family, and teammates of Tucker joined in a surprise birthday parade through the neighborhood to celebrate the special 10-year-old’s birthday.
The birthday girl’s mother, Adrienne Tucker, made a Facebook post Monday evening asking for friends and family to do a drive-by visit, mail a card or record a birthday message to make the day special for her daughter. County Administrator Carrie Wallace saw the post and helped organize a parade of friends, family, first responders and teammates.
The Tucker family gathered in the front yard to view the parade, as cars decorated in signs and balloons yelled birthday wishes out the window and dropped cards in the mailbox. The parade began with a police escort and ended with a fire engine finale.
Tucker was in disbelief of the turnout and support for her birthday – a birthday she will likely never forget.
