Big weeks shake up Bob Cupp Memorial Golf League standings

Golfers take to Buckhannon Country Club

TENNERTON — With a 19 1/2 to 13 1/2 win over Baker Tilly, the First Community Bank team seized sole control of the top of the Bob Cupp Memorial Golf League standings through the second week of the third quarter of play. First Community Bank currently holds a slight one-point advantage over the High Point Construction team, leading the field with 37 points through the twelfth overall week of play.

High Point Construction earned the most lopsided victory of the day, beating the Highland Landscaping team by a score of 20 1/2 to 12 1/2. With 36 team points, the High Point Construction team is firmly in striking distance of the lead and will look to build upon their dominant showing last week as they take on First Community Bank in a battle of the league’s top two third quarter teams this week.

In a match-up with massive implications on the third quarter standings, a surging Custom Cabinets team made a huge leap in the standings, moving all the way from sixth to third-place following a dominance 19 to 11 1/2 win over last week’s number-one team in the standings, Lisa Cain Edward Jones. Adversely, an uncharacteristically quiet scoring day for the Lisa Cain Edwards Jones team sent them tumbling from the top of the standings, dropping to seventh-place on this week’s leaderboard. Lisa Cain Edward Jones will look to rebound and get back to business as usual against Baker Tilly.

Hank Ellis Insurance edged out Feola’s Flowers, by a score of 18 1/2 to 16 behind a big day Steve Jeran, who was the day’s top performer, earning both Low Actual and Low Net honors this week, after recording a 35 in terms of his Low Actual score and a 31 in terms of his Low Net score. With the win, the Hank Ellis Insurance team jumped three spots in the standings, from seventh to fourth-place. The loss cools off a previously scorching hot Feola’s Flowers team. In spite of the loss, the Feola’s Flowers did not drop far in the standings, moving from fifth last week to sixth-place this week.

Following Sam’s Pizza win over UniFirst Corporation, by a final score of 18-13, they were this week’s big mover in the Bob Cupp Memorial standings, moving all the way from ninth to fifth-place with 33 1/2 points.
