BUCKHANNON — Sunday evening as the sun began to set, the Berry Fairies took to the streets to decorate the City of Buckhannon for the upcoming 79th Annual West Virginia Strawberry Festival. The Berry Fairies are a group of volunteers from all over Upshur County, including board members and their families.
Volunteers happily come together once a year to donate a few hours of their time to paint strawberries on the streets of Buckhannon to signify the start of the beloved Strawberry Festival. This year, as the town began to settle down for the evening, the Berry Fairies put on their yellow vests and with spray paint in hand, they began decorating with iconic strawberries and the 79th WVSF emblem. Laughter and smiles were shared all around, but they were prompt to get the job done. Buckhannon Fire Department made sure everyone stayed safe while being surrounded by traffic.
As you drive down Main Street this May, be sure to look at all the beautifully decorated window displays and take an extra second to appreciate the time volunteers spent to ensure even the smallest details are never forgotten.
