Combined, the two Splasher teams placed third with 390 points.

The Splasher girls got things started with a win in the 15 to 18-year-old 200-meter Freestyle Relay team. Cameron Zuliani, Lillian Fetty, Alayna Whitehair and Cadence Vincent combined to pick up the team’s first win of the day, setting a new meet record time of 1:57.08 in the process. The team of Rylee Yardley, Mallory Hughes, Sammie Shay and Karson Karickhoff won the girls 13 to 14-year-old 200-meter Medley Relay with a time of 2:46.36 before picking up runner-up honors in the 13 to 14-year-old 200-meter Freestyle Relay with a combined time of 2:24.38 to round out the Splasher girls relay wins.

The Splasher boys didn’t register a relay event win in the NCWV championship meet, although they did swim to a second and a third-place finish. Felix Stump, Kyler Baisden, Garety Shay and Thomas Wilsoncroft teamed to take runner-up honors in the boys 9 to 10-year-old 100-meter Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:21.03. The boys 15 to 18-year-old 200-meter Medley Relay team collected the other top finish of the day for the Splasher boys relay team, taking a third-place finish in the 15 to 18-year-old 200-meter Medley Relay as Preston Bennett, Carter Zuliani, Reis Leonard and Owen Caynor combined to touch the wall in just 2:06.53.

The Splasher boys earned eight total event wins, two runner-up finishes and three third-place finishes. Nine-year-olds Kyler Baisden and Thomas Wilsoncroft raced to top finishes in the 9 to 10-year-old division for the Splasher boys. Finally, B-UHS swimming standout and 2021-22 state champion Preston Bennett won two individual events, while also earning runner-up honors in another event and swimming to a pair third-place finishes to cap off his NCWV meet. Bennett got his meet started with a championship effort in the 200-meter Freestyle with his time of 2:03.15 more than fast enough to beat out a bevy of tough challenges from the field. Bennett went on to pick up his first of two third-place finish in the 100-meter Backstroke with a time of 1:04.06. Bennett took runner-up honors in the 200-meter IM with a time of 2:17.50. Individually, the Splasher girls shined, earning nine event wins, five runner-up finishes and eight third-place finishes.

Seven-year-old Tori Wilsoncroft came ever so close to picking up a pair of wins in her age group. She raced to two strong finishes, taking runner-up honors in both the girls 7 to 8-year-old 50-meter Freestyle and the 7 to 8-year-old 25-meter Fly with times of 48.39 and 26.35 seconds, respectively.

Nine-year old Berkely Jeran turned in a pair of nice runs, picking up a third-place finish in the 100-meter IM with a time of 1:35.95 before improving none that run in the 9 to 10-year-old 100-meter Freestyle, touching the wall in just 1:28.91 to earn the win.

Cora Cottrill was busy on both days of the NCWV Championships, swimming her way to a pair of third-place fin-ishes, a runner-up finish and a lone win. Cottrill’s win came in the girls 9 to 10-year-old 25-meter Freestyle, with an outstanding time of just 16.14 seconds. Cottrill raced to a second-place finish in the 25-meter Fly with a time of 19.47 seconds. Cottrill’s third-place finished came in the 25-meter Backstroke with a time of 22.54 seconds and the 50-meter Freestyle with a time of 37.63 seconds.

Aubry Shay picked up two third-place finishes on the podium for the 11 to 12-year-old Splasher girls. Shay turned in times of 1:28.04 in the 100-meter IM and 41.30 seconds in the 50-meter Backstroke.

Mallory Hughes led the pack for the Splasher girls in the 13 to 14-year-old age division, picking up a pair of third-place finishes, a runner-up finish and one win. Hughes raced her way to a win in the 50-meter Freestyle, turning in a time of 30.12 seconds as she cruised by the competition. Hughes then went on to finish second in the 100-meter Freestyle with a time of 1:09.37 before earning third in both the 200-meter with a time of 2:36.28 and the 50-meter Fly with a time of 34.55 seconds.

The 15 to 18-year-old group of Splasher girls made waves at the NCWV Championship meet Alayna Whitehair got things started by winning the 200-meter IM touching the wall in just 2:42.23 to pick up the first of many wins for the Splasher girls in this age grouping.

Alabama commit Cadence Vincent had a busy two-day meet, setting several records over the course of the tel-day event. Vincent got things started with the 100-meter Backstroke. In last Summer’s North Central West Virginia swimming championships with a time of 1:04.28, Vincent repeated as the event’s winner this year, nearly breaking her own record time, touching the wall in 1:04.73 for her first individual win of the day. Vincent stayed at the top of her game, adding another NCWV Meet record to her ever-growing resume in the girls 15 to 18-year-old 50-meter Freestyle with a time of 26.56 seconds. Vincent continued her record-setting day by setting yet another individual meet record in the girls 15 to 18-year-old 50-meter Backstroke with a time of 30.36 seconds. Vincent wasn’t quite finished yet, setting records in the 50-meter Fly with a time of 29.10 seconds, the 100-meter Freestyle with a time of 58.18 seconds to close out her dominant championship level performance.

In the final meet of her long and storied Splasher career, as the team’s only senior, Merrimack College Cameron  Zuliani swimming and track commit turned in a stellar performance in the NCWV Championships. Zuliani earned a third-place finish, a runner-up finish and a win, writing the final page of her Splasher story. Zuliani started the meet with a third-place finish in the 100-meter Fly with a time of 1:13.34. Later, in the 50-meter Fly, Zuliani earned run-ner-up honors with a time of 31.61 seconds, only finishing behind Vincent’s record-setting performance. Zuliani broke through in the 100-meter Breaststroke, earning a well-deserved win with a time of 1:22.95 to ensure her story-book ending.

Zuliani took the time to offer her thoughts on her final meet as a Splasher. “I was really proud of how our whole team did and especially our group of girls in the 15 to 18 age group,” Zuliani said. “Our group had the three top fin-ishers in Cadence Vincent (High-Point) myself, (Runner Up), and Alayna Whitehair (3rd). I am glad that I placed well as I did since it is my last summer swimming for the Splashers after 14 years!”
