Bennett goes 8-0 as wrestling Buccaneers have solid showing at Musselman Duals Tournament

INWOOD – Alex Bennett had himself quite the tournament for the Buckhannon-Upshur wrestling Buccaneers at the two-day Musselman Duals this past weekend.

Wrestling out of the 220-pound division, Bennett went a perfect 8-0 at the duals tournament.

“Bennett had a great weekend going 8-0,” remarked Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jacob Orr. “He’s wrestling well right now and coming in strong.”

Breagan Pearson (152 pounds), Jacob Smithson (170 pounds) and Todd Cutlip (heavyweight) also had strong showings for the Bucs as all three wrestlers went 7-1.

“Breagan hit the mat for the first time this season coming off of an early season injury,” noted Orr. “It was good to see him back in the line-up and knock the rust off. Orr and Cutlip both had  good weekends as well going 7-1.”

Rounding out the B-U line-up were Aidan Wilson (113) and Nathan Cornett (132) going 5-3, Trevur Randolph (138) going 4-4, Luke Bohnsack (160) compiling a 3-4 mark. Julius Hobbs (126) earning a 3-1 ledger and Nathan Allen (145) going 3-5.

As a team, the Buccaneers compiled a 3-5 record in the 18-team event.

“The team had a long weekend of grueling matches,” stated Orr. “They competed eight times in two days. That’s a lot of wrestling in a 24 hour span. We are a young team this year and all the guys have really bought into the program and are pushing themselves hard. The heart that these guys show each and every time we touch the mat is very impressive.”

The Bucs will return the mat today and Saturday at the Wheeling Park duals competing against 32 other in-state and out of state teams.
