Benjamin Clinton “Cuz” Wetzel, 89, of Weston, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, November 14, 2022 at his home, while under the compassionate care of the VA Home-Based Program and WVU/UHC Home Health and Hospice.
Ben was born in Quiet Dell on April 24, 1933, a son of the late Benjamin Victor Wetzel and Eva Rachel Harman Wetzel.
In addition to his parents, Ben was preceded in death by two sons: Michael Clinton Wetzel and Mark Steven Wetzel; and one brother, Victor N. Wetzel.
Forever cherishing their memories of Ben are his wife of 67 years, Vonda K. Rice Wetzel; three grandchildren: Cody Westbrook Wetzel, and Kayla Jane Wetzel, both of Lavalette, W.Va., and Rachael Tomblyn, of Barboursville, WV; one brother, Gary L. Wetzel and wife, LaDonne, of Bridgeport; one sister, Stephanie A. Blagg and husband, Dwain, of Salem, W.Va.; two great-grandchildren: Miles and Lucy; one daughter-in-law, Judith Kay, of Lavalette; and several nieces and nephews.
Ben was a 1951 Roosevelt Wilson High School graduate, where he was active in the football program. After graduation, Ben joined the U.S. Navy as a Seabee and was deployed to Guam, Korea, Japan and California. He spent 40 years as a certified auto mechanic. Through the years, Cuz enjoyed woodcarving, log cabin building, camping and traveling. He also enjoyed singing and playing the Baritone Uke whenever he had the chance.
Ben’s request for cremation has been honored at Pat Boyle Funeral Home’s On-Site Crematory. Following cremation, Ben’s request for a private Celebration of Life Service will be honored and his ashes will be scattered at the resting place of his sons in the Wild and Wonderful hills of West Virginia.
