BCA to host open house, enrollment

BUCKHANNON — Established in the Fall of 2020, Buckhannon Christian Academy (BCA) has a mission to provide a high-quality Christ-Centered education while challenging students to develop their gifts and abilities to glorify God in every area of life.

Aimee Payne is the Administrator for BCA. Payne has a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and certification in Multi-categorical Special Education from Alderson-Broaddus University and a master’s degree in Reading Education from West Virginia Wesleyan College. Payne has been teaching in Upshur County for the past 15 years.

Payne announced that, while BCA has been accepting students from Pre-K to sixth grade, for the 2022-2023 school year the school will add seventh grade as well. Payne is excited about the expansion and noted the school will be hosting an open house on Wednesday, March 17 at 6 p.m. The community is invited to come meet the staff and enjoy a short performance by some of the current students.

In addition to this, an educational advocate will be present to discuss information about the West Virginia Educational Scholarship Program for the 2022-2023 school year, known as the Hope Scholarship. A 30-minute workshop on the Hope Scholarship will be available to help connect you to accurate information to make informed choices. A question-and-answer session and tour of the school will conclude the event.

Enrollment is currently open for the 2022-2023 school year. Any family interested in enrolling their child or children should follow the procedures listed below as noted from the BCA website.

• Request the application forms or download from the website.

• Complete the forms and deliver by appointment or mail to our PO Box with the application fee.

• No student will be admitted without a copy of the original state-issued birth certificate and a complete immunization record.

After the application is received, the administrator will call to set up an appointment for an interview and tour of the school. The parent(s)/guardian(s) and the student must be present.

Tuition payments begin July 1 for the following school year. If the student is accepted after July 1, the first tuition payment is due prior to enrollment. All Kindergarten students are assessed prior to admission. Applicants for first grade and above must have report cards and test scores from previous school years. BCA reserves the right to assess any student requesting enrollment. Additional testing fees may apply. A determination letter of admission will be sent after all records are reviewed and application payment is received.

BCA also has several current fundraisers that help with the cost of field trips, building expansions and the costs associated with a current student’s sibling that is suffering from cancer.

One fundraiser is a family mini photo session that will be provided by Shanda Renee Photography and is priced at $100. This fundraiser is scheduled for Saturday, April 2, from 4 to 8 p.m. Time slots and additional information can be obtained at https://book.usesession.com/s/SFp22ufMg. A bake sale is also scheduled for Saturday, April 9, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will be held outside of Shoe Sensation, located in the Skyline Plaza. A paint party is scheduled for Monday, April 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. Fundraising is also available to aide in associated costs to Violet Garrison, a young sibling of a current student who is fighting cancer. The purchase of t-shirts supports the Garrison family. On Violet’s treatment days, those in attendance at BCA wear their “Hope for Violet” shirts to show their support. T- shirts can be purchased at https://www.bonfire.com/store/violets-victory-squad/ and a journal on her recovery can be followed at https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/violetgarrison/journal.

Payne also noted that BCA has seen overwhelming support from the community through donations and volunteers. “We are very appreciative,” said Payne, who also recognized County Time Cooking, who donates meals to BCA twice a week. BCA is also open for more volunteers. For interest in volunteering or additional questions about BCA, contact Aimee Payne at (304) 460-5667 or [email protected] Donations can also be mailed to BCA at P.O. Box 844 Buckhannon, W. Va. 26201.
