Baseball ‘Cats open spring break tour dropping a pair of games to Cedarville


WINTER HAVEN (Fla.) – It was a rough first day for the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcat baseball team on their spring break tour on Saturday when they squared off in a doubleheader against the Cedarville Yellow Jackets.

The Bobcats dropped game one by a 13-0 score and lost the nightcap by a 16-2 score.

Little went right for the ‘Cats in the opener as they had more errors (four) than hits (three).

Cedarville scored in every inning in the 13-run win.

Sam Ingram, Dylan Gump and Leo White had the three hits for Wesleyan.

Anthony Napoleon started the game for Wesleyan and suffered the setback.

He went five innings giving up nine earned runs on 10 hits.

Payton Eeles and Bryce Hughes each had three hits for Cedarville.

Noah Schleinitz earned the win for Cedarville pitching six innings and allowing just the three hits while walking three and striking out seven.

Game two mirrored game one for Wesleyan as again they committed more errors than they collected hits.

Wesleyan mustered just four hits but committed six errors.

Cedarville scored a run in the bottom of the first but Wesleyan matched that in the top of the second with an unearned run when Tanner McCallister singled home Luke Burner.

Cedarville put the game out of reach with a seven-run bottom of the second inning for an 8-1 lead.

Cedarville tacked on three more in the third and fourth innings and two more in the bottom of the fifth for a 16-1 lead.

Wesleyan scored the last run of the game in the top sixth when Leo White received a bases loaded walk that scored Adrian Delgado.

The pair of losses dropped Wesleyan to 0-6.

They were slated to play the University of Sciences on Sunday and Grand Valley State in a twin bill on Monday.

They will return to action today playing Cedarville again at 4:30 p.m. and face the University of Minnesota Crookston and Embry Riddle University on Wednesday.
