Baseball Bucs have rough outings in losses to Preston and Lincoln

TENNERTON – It was a rough day for the Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneer baseball team on Tuesday as they lost a pair of home games to Preston and Lincoln in Big 10 Conference action.

They lost the first game on Tuesday against Preston by a 6-2 score and then dropped a 11-1 decision to Lincoln.

Preston went up by a 3-0 score after chasing across three runs in the top of the first.

The Bucs countered with a run in their half of the first when Nick Calef-Boring singled home Logan Bailey.

Preston made it a 5-1 game with a pair of runs in the top of second.

Buckhannon-Upshur made it a 5-2 contest in the bottom of the third when Logan Bailey scored on a passed ball.

The Bucs couldn’t score the rest of the way and Preston tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh to round out the scoring.

Only two of Preston’s six runs were earned as the Bucs made four errors in the contest.

The Bucs collected just six hits in the contest with Bailey leading the way with two.

Cole Hoover suffered the loss as he went 2 1/3 innings and gave up two earned runs on five hits and struck out four.

The Bucs were never in their contest with Lincoln as the game was called in the sixth inning on the mercy rule.

Buckhannon-Upshur made more errors (four) than they had hits (three).

Lincoln scored a pair of runs in the top of the first for a 2-0 lead.

B-U’s lone run came in the bottom of the first when Cole Hoover singled home Logan Bailey.

Lincoln scored six runs in the top of the second to put the game out of reach taking an 8-1 lead.

The added one more in the fifth and sixth innings to end it on the 10-run rule.

Hoover had two of the three B-U hits while Andrew Herron had the other.

Wesley Rosencrance suffered the loss getting the start.

He went 1 1/3 innings and gave up six earned runs on three hits.

The pair of losses left the Bucs with a 2-4 record heading into Wednesday’s game with Morgantown.

They were slated to play North Marion on Thursday.

They will return to action on Monday visiting Grafton for a 5 p.m. start.
