Barcus receives Federal sentence for meth distribution

ELKINS — An Upshur County man was sentenced for the distribution of methamphetamine by the Elkins Division of Federal Court last week.

U.S. Attorney Bill Powell announced that Jason Benton Barcus, age 41, of Ellamore, was sentenced to 87 months of incarceration on Jan. 7, 2021.

Barcus previously entered a guilty plea to one count of “Possession with Intent to Distribute 50 grams or more of Methamphetamine” in July 2020.  The Mountain Lakes Drug & Violent Crimes Task Force investigation resulted in Barcus admitting to the distribution of over 50 grams of methamphetamine in Upshur County during March 2019.

U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh presided over the case that was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Brandon Flower on behalf of the government.

Barcus currently remains at Tygart Valley Regional Jail awaiting transfer to a Federal facility where he will continue to serve his sentence of 7 years and 3 months.
