Banks District VFD receives land donation

BUCKHANNON — A local church association donated an abandoned property in Rock Cave to the Banks District Volunteer Fire Department on Sunday.

Representatives from a couple local churches and the Banks District VFD met at Wayside Baptist Church to take part in the donation of the site of a disbanded church. The Monongahela Baptist Association came into the ownership of the deed to the property that used to be New Covenant’s Baptist Church. The church disbanded approximately 10-12 years ago and the property reverted to the MBA who then began discussing what to do with it.

The Monongahela Baptist Association approached the fire department to discuss their interest in the property. After some time, discussion and many prayers, it was decided that the deed to the property would be donated to the Banks District VFD to do with as they see fit.

The deed was legally transferred to the VFD and they see this donation as a step to fight some real issues within the community. “God brought this to us and will help us use it for what’s best for the community,” said Steve Linger, Chaplin of the Banks District VFD. The location is reportedly not suitable for restoration, but plans to clean up the area have already been put in motion.
