Ball has four RBIs as Lady Bucs down Bridgeport in five innings, 10-2

Robin Ball

TENNERTON – Robin Ball had four hits and drove in four runs to lead the Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc softball team to a 10-2 win over Bridgeport Wednesday evening.

The game was called in the bottom of the fifth inning on the mercy rule.

“Ball is really seeing the ball well,” remarked Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Levi Bender. “It’s nice to see her so comfortable and confident at the plate, finally letting her ability show.”

The Lady Bucs took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Shelby McDaniels hit a one-out double to left field and Ball had her first RBI of the night with a single to right field.

Bridgeport tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the second, but the Lady Bucs answered with a three-run inning in their half of the second.

Megan Bailey and Ball each knocked in while McDaniels came home on an error giving the Lady Bucs a 4-1 advantage.

They increased their lead to 8-1 in the bottom of the third with a four-run inning.

The Lady Bucs capitalized on singles from Kennedy Samargo and Ball, two hit batsmen and a Bridgeport error to account for the scoring.

Bridgeport pushed across a run in the top of the fourth making it an 8-2 game, but the Lady Bucs finished off the Indians with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Brooklyn Robinson knocked home Ball with a single and later scored on a passed ball as the game was stopped on the mercy rule.

Samargo added two hits in B-U’s 11-hit attack.

Jansen Kimble improved her mark to 4-2 tossing all five innings.

She gave up just one earned run on five hits while walking just one and striking out six.

“Kimble has been throwing the ball extremely well for us and it seems that the more she throws the better and more confident she gets, during games and through the season,” stated Bender.

The contest was the first game for Bender and his squad in eight days.

“Overall, it was a good team win,” concluded Bender. “We played solid and kept chipping away at all three facets of the game.”

The win improved the Lady Bucs to 4-3 overall heading into Saturday’s doubleheader.

They will host Preston at 11 a.m. and then face Elkins at 3 p.m.

On Monday, they will visit Elkins for a 5 p.m. contest.
