ELKINS — The Diamond Dealers 13-and-under Baseball Team, coached by Charles Conaway, Jacob Atkins, Lisa Biller and Pete Sandy, put together an impressive trip to the Diamond Dealers Invitational held at Elkins High School, winning the 13-and-under championship last weekend.

The Diamond Dealers coasted to a win in game one of the four-team tournament, before matching up against the Lewis County Warhawks 14-and-under team in the championship game on Saturday, June 25. The Diamond Dealers came out on top of a back-and-forth affair by a final score of 8-5. These two evenly matched teams traded blows, until the Diamond Dealers pulled away with a strong offensive push.

The coaching staff has to be excited as the 13-and-under boys bring home their first tournament championship of the Summer. The passion that drives this team and coaching staff is truly inspiring. Their focus on individual development has in turn led to team success. The 13-and-under Diamond Dealers team received a boost as several players enjoyed strong offensive outings at the plate. Bryar Sandy led the Diamond Dealers with 2 hits, both of which were singles, while Dyer Barger chipped in a single. Both Slayton Harris and Hayden Tenney hit doubles, while Brayden Biller did a little bit of everything as he hit a single, stole a base and scored a run. Landon Conaway was walked twice, taking full advantage of the free base with some sound decisions in terms of base-running, scoring two runs.

The look on every single one of the boy’s faces as they lifted the trophy is a little taste of what sports are supposed to be about; the excitement of achievement, of being a part of something larger than yourself, of togetherness in the moment and the sheer elation of victory.
