B- UMS wrestling team posts strong performance, going 2-0 during tri-duals

MORGANTOWN — On Tuesday, December 21, the Buckhanon- Upshur Middle School wrestling team traveled to South Morgantown for a tri-dual. The B- UMS wrestlers found themselves matched up against South Morgantown and East Fairmont. The Bums soundly beat both teams on their way to finishing the tri-dual at the top of the standings. 

The team first handled business against South Morgantown by a final tally of 72-15, to notch their first win of the day. The wrestlers then took on East Fairmont, winning the team dual, 52-33 to end the day 2-0 as a team. 

JJ Harris (78-pound weight classification), Will Kennedy (84), Jeremy Jett (90), Josh Thomas (95), Maya Garcia (123), Trenton Ward (128), Hunter Cowgard (135), and Eli Watkins (155) all finished with perfect 2-0 records on the day to lead the little Bucs. Alex Wamsley (102), Brianna Howes (110), Haylee Woody (116), Preston Harris (145), Chance Morgan (190), and exhibition wrestler Kayden Thomas all left Morgantown with split 1-1 records. Both Alex Hawkins (171) and heavyweight Matthew Hawkins found themselves matched up against some of the toughest competition at this dual and neither was able to come away with a win, finishing 0-2.

The Buckhannon- Upshur Middle School wrestling team will next take the mat at home, when they host Braxton, Elkview, Petersburg, Preston, and Summersville to Tennerton for a large home duals tournament. This tournament will be held the evening of Tuesday, December 28 at the Buckhannon Middle School.
