B-UMS junior varsity girls dominate Braxton, 23-5

TENNERTON — As the season goes on, the Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School girls junior varsity basketball team continues to advance in the search for consistency. On Monday, January 24, the junior varsity team left no room for doubt against Braxton County. The JV Little Lady Bucs dominant win was fueled by a selfless, well balanced-offensive attack and suffocating defense, earning a 23-5 victory over the junior varsity Little Eagles. 

After outscoring the Little Eagles 10-3 in the first quarter, the Little Lady Bucs held Braxton to a scoreless next two quarters. Entering the fourth and final quarter, the Little Lady Bucs held a commanding 18-3 lead. The B-UMS junior varsity team outscored the Little Eagles 6-2, to close out the win in forceful fashion. The win marks the team’s second win of the season. As they continue to progress and evolve as players, wins are sure to follow. 

Gracie Gerwig was at the head of the Little Lady Bucs’ balance offensive attack. Gerwig showed a soft shooting touch, scoring all 6 of her points against the Little Eagles from beyond the arc. Both of Gerwig’s 3-point shots came in the second half, one in the third quarter and one in the fourth. Her timely shots help close out her team’s dominant showing against Braxton. 

Bralynn Guody scored 5 points, hitting one 2-point field goal and 3-6 (50%) shooting from the free throw line. After a quiet first half, Guody played a big role for the Little Lady Bucs in the second half. Guody finished the game as the team’s second leading scorer against Braxton. 

Sarah Coffman scored 4 points, all coming in the first quarter. Coffman played a large role in helping the girl’s junior varsity team build a solid lead in the opening quarter of the game. Lena Rose Walker scored 2 points on a single made 2-point field goal. Walker’s only field goal on the night was notable as it was the team’s only points in the second quarter. Becca Pastorius scored 2 points, hitting her lone field goal in the first quarter to round out the scoring numbers for the B-UMA junior varsity team in their second win of the season.
