B-UHS Swimming travels to Bridgeport Invitational

BRIDGEPORT — The Buckhannon-Upshur High School (B-UHS) swimming team traveled to The Bridge Sports Complex in Bridgeport on Saturday, November 19, 2022, for the Bridgeport Invitational.

Starting the season out well, a few Lady Bucs swimmers showed an impressive performance in the first event, the Girls 200 Yard Medley Relay, where Lillian Fetty, Alayna Whitehair, Cadence Vincent and Rylee Yardley recorded a time of 2:05:82, which finished second in the event.

Cadence Vincent would go on to place first in the seventh event, the Girls 50 Yard Freestyle, with a time of 23:89 and in the eleventh event, the Girls 100 Yard Freestyle, with a recorded time of 52:06. Fetty would finish fifteenth in the Girls 200 Yard Freestyle and sixth in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 6:43:55.

The Girls would also place second in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, where Whitehair, Fetty, Yardley and Vincent would record a time of 1:52:26.

In the sixteenth event, the Boys 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, the Bucs represented by Reis Leonard, Owen Caynor, Carter Zuliani and Preston Bennett would place first with a time of 1:39:04.

The Boys would also place third in the 200 Yard Medley Relay, seeing Preston Bennett, Reis Leonard, Carter Zuliani and Owen Caynor record a time of 1:50:29.

Carter Zuliani placed second in the eighth event, the Boys 50 Yard Freestyle, with a time of 23:76. Reis Leonard would go on to finish ninth in the Boys 200 Yard IM, the sixth event, with a total time of 2:29:95.

Lillian Fetty and Rylee Yardley would place fifteenth and nineteenth respectively in the Girls 200 Yard Freestyle third event, with times of 2:32:87 (Fetty) and 2:38:86 (Yardley).

Sammy Shay would notch fourteenth in the seventeenth event, the Girls 100 Yard Backstroke, with a time of 1:24:07. Alayna Whitehair would tie for third place in the Girls 100 Yard Backstroke, with a time of 1:14:66.

Buckhannon-Upshur, combined, would go on to finish fifth in the meet, with a total score of 124.5. The Lady Bucs placed third, with a total of 60.5 and the Bucs placed fifth with a score of 64.

The B-U Swimming team is set to host their next meet Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at the West Virginia Wesleyan College Swimming Complex.
