BUCKHANNON — Several Buckhannon-Upshur High School students were recently selected to participate in the WV Vocal Music Association All-State Chorus and the WV American Choral Director’s Association All-State Chamber Choir.
B-UHS students Elizabeth O’Neil, Victoria Adams, Ryanna Hines, Heather Humphrey, Kobe Hamrick, Ethan Lawrence and Patrick O’Neil were selected for the WVVMA All-State Chorus. Selected for the WVACDA All-State Chamber Choir were Elizabeth O’Neil, Julianna Stark, Kobe Hamrick, Patrick O’Neil and Richard Williams.
Jeremiah Smallridge, Director of Theatre and Choirs at B-UHS, stated, “We are very proud of these hard working and talented students.” A video of the students singing together is available on the “B-UHS Fine Arts Department” Facebook page. Different from previous years, the WVVMA and the WVACDA auditioned students together this year.
The WVACDA students had sight singing and other musicianship assessments, in addition of the performance portion of the auditions, explained Smallridge. Of these students, seven of them will also be performing in a virtual choir performance with the American Pop Orchestra on PBS later this spring.
Principal of B-UHS, Mr. Jonathan Pollock told The Record Delta, “We are very proud of our students and their hard work. We value the importance of music and the other arts and their roles in educating the whole student. Congratulations for being named to the All-State Ensembles.”
