BUCKHANNON – The B-UHS cast of “I Never Saw Another Butterfly” is on their way to Knoxville, TN, to participate in 70th annual Southeastern Theatre Conference.
They recently won first place at the regional Thespians competition with Shawnte McWhorter and Richard Williams being named to the all festival cast and Elizabeth O’Neill was one of two named best actor at the festival.
Produced by Jeremiah Smallridge and directed by Laura J. Meese, the one-act cut “I Never Saw Another Butterfly” by Celeste Raspanti is taken from I Never Saw Another Butterfly, a collection of works of art and poetry by Jewish children who lived in the concentration camp Theresienstadt. They were created at the camp in secret art classes taught by Austrian artist and educator Friedl Dicker-Brandeis. The book takes its title from a poem by Pavel Friedmann, a young man born in 1921 who was incarcerated at Theresienstadt and was later killed at Auschwitz.
The cast includes Shawnte McWhorter, Elizabeth O’Neill, Richard Williams, Kai Machunze, Guage Ware, Elijah Sharpe, Kyia McGill, Emma Hicks, Savannah Chipps, Hayley Harvey, Jaiden Watkins, Audra Thacker, Georgeanna Harris, Kiley Fasick, Anatasia Kendall, Kathrine Tenney, Alicia Criss, Rayven Sipe, Bailey Carpenter, Jessica Lane, Patrick O’Neill, and Camden Wentz.
Crew members include Autumn Taylor and Taylor Cunningham.
