WESTON — The Buckhannon- Upshur junior varsity basketball team traveled to Weston for a road conference game against rival Lewis County. In the end, the Bucs came just short of overcoming an off-shooting night, falling with a final score of 36-26.
The JV team played outstanding defense holding their opponent to only 36 points in the night. This stout defensive performance was undone by the Bucs struggles to convert offensively, only managing to score 26 points of their own.
Following a first half that was defined by the two team’s defensive efforts, the Bucs found themselves trailing 16-11 going into halftime. The boys offensive struggles from the first half carried into the third quarter, getting outscored 10-4 in the period. Trailing 26-15 at the start of the fourth, the JV team had their best offensive quarter of the game, scoring 11 points in the final frame, unfortunately, it proved to be too little, too late, dropping the game to the Minutemen by a final score of 36-26.
Sophomore Nathaniel Ringer finished the night with 11 points. Sophomore Luke Yardley scored 7 points in the night. Freshman guard Carter Zuliani had 5 points against Lewis County. Junior Keyton Lanier scored all 3 of his points from the charity stripe. Sophomore Ryan Snyder also scored all his points from the free throw line, ending the night with 2 points to round out the scoring on the night for the Bucs junior varsity team.
