B-UHS Athletes of the Week 11-8-2021

BUCKHANNON — The Buckhannon-Upshur “Athletes of the Week” are seniors Caroline Frye and Logan Kelley.

Caroline has been a standout athlete for much of her time at B-UHS, starring and lettering multiple times in both volleyball and track. She effortlessly manages to balance both athletics and academics, being a hard-working athlete and highly involved student who was a vocal leader for the veteran Lady Bucs’ volleyball team this season—
someone the other players could count on to be poised in the face of adversity.

Throughout her volleyball career, Caroline has constantly displayed a passion for the game. Caroline finishes this season with 27 aces, 103 kills, 13 assists, 3 blocks, and 259 digs.  In her last volleyball game as a Lady Buc, Caroline had 3 kills and 7 digs.

Playing in the trenches on either side of the line can be tiring and often overlooked, but that is often ultimately where the game is decided. It is in the trenches where senior Logan Kelley has made his impact. Logan has been a fixture on the Bucs’ defensive line the past few seasons, being a multiple time letterman in football.

Logan was a pivotal part of the Buccaneers’ defense, even more so than any statistical measure. He is a versatile multi-positional playmaker, able to switch between defensive end and defensive tackle. He has a nose for the football, with a knack for beating offensive lineman off the line, breaking into the backfield, and busting up plays. He brought needed leadership to a young Bucs’ defensive unit, who will surely miss versatility and physicality next season.

Friday night against Elkins, Logan disrupted a play on defense, causing a mishandled snap, resulting in him tackling an Elkins’ player attempting to recover the ball in the endzone for a safety. This play is just an example of just how impactful Logan can be on defense.
