BUCKHANNON — Catherine Oliveto and Ian Donnen are the Buckhannon-Upshur Athletes of the Week.
Catherine Oliveto (#10) is a senior at Buckhannon-Upshur High School where she plays forward position for the Lady Buccaneers and is the leader in goals this season. She has played soccer throughout her high school career and has led numerous seasons in goals and assists. Oliveto garnered a spot on the Big 10 All Conference First Team, as well as All Region, and received WV Sportswriter’s All State Soccer Team awards throughout her career.
Oliveto also runs on the B-UHS track team and has been awarded high point honors including the Big 10 Championship. She was also a Regional Champion and medaled in two state relays. Oliveto has reportedly declined several college’s offers in order to remain local and play next season for the Bobcats at West Virginia Wesleyan College.
Ian Donnen (#12) is a junior at B-UHS and this is his second year as the full-time starting quarterback where he leads the Buccaneers in touchdowns this season. He has played football and baseball all three years of his high school career so far, and he will play his senior year as well.
Donnen is also the catcher for the B-UHS baseball team. He missed his freshman season when it was cancelled due to the pandemic, but he will still receive credit. Donnen lettered in football his Freshman year. Although the Buccaneers lost to University High School on Friday night, Donnen scored the Bucs’ only touchdown of the game!
