B-UHS Athlete of the Week 2-19-2022

Sophomore small forward/power forward #20 Jaden Westfall

Jaden has taken full advantage of every opportunity that has come his way, pulling double duty for two separate B-UHS basketball teams, during his sophomore campaign, as he has been a crucial piece for both Travis Foster’s varsity Bucs and Keith Wolverton’s junior varsity Bucs this year. Throughout the season, Westfall has provided both teams with a steady interior presence on the glass to go along with his efficient scoring touch around the rim. Westfall knows when to pick his spots offensively and is a tenacious defender, often taking on the task of guarding larger players in the post.

This week, Westfall has put together an outstanding week, last Saturday, February 12, Westfall scored 4 points and pulled down 5 rebounds against Phillip Barbour in the junior varsity game before scoring 6 points and pulling down 10 rebounds during the varsity game.

Then on Valentine’s Day, scored 8 points and pulled down 6 rebounds in the junior varsity Bucs game against North Marion, before scoring 5 points and pulling down 4 rebounds in the varsity game.

Finally, last Wednesday, February 16 Jaden scored 6 points and pulled down 4 rebounds for the junior varsity Bucs against University before wrapping his big week up by scoring 8 of the varsity Bucs 32 points in their loss against University.

Freshman swimmer Riley Vincent

The Vincent duo has proven to be a vital part of the B-UHS swim team under the direction of Coach Mike Roessing. Riley is a talented athlete in her own right. Whether it’s in the pool or on the hardwood for a volleyball game, Vincent always competes at a high level.

After a strong freshman swimming campaign, Riley qualified for the WVSSAC West Virginia Swimming Championship Meet. As an individual, Vincent made the states field for the 100-yard backstroke, while also qualifying as part of the 200-yard medley and freestyle relay teams.

In her bid to qualify for states, Vincent put together a strong debut performance in the West Virginia Region III Championship meet back on Saturday, February 5, earning a sixth-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke, while being a contributor on the regional champion 200-yard relay teams.
