TENNERTON — The Buckhannon-Upshur track teams opened the season at home on Tuesday, hosting Elkins and Lewis County.
The Lady Bucs racked up 71 points to take team honors, while the B-U boys were third with 51.
The B-U girls had eight first-place finishes and were led by Leah Stankus.
The senior standout won the 100-meter dash (13.55), 200 (27.75), 100 hurdles (17.13) and 300 hurdles (52.09).
Freshman Makenzie Lewellyn took the 400 in a time of 1:08.08, Iris Kolenich the high jump (4-09), Kaitlyn Luterak the shot put (29-06) and Breanna Morgan the discus (91-04).
Freshman Kennedi Lewellyn was runner-up to her twin sister in the 400, while Makenzie Lewellyn was second in the pole vault, Payton Knicely second in the shot put, Haley Gompers second in the long jump and Luterak second in the discus.
Haley Gompers, Lauren Gompers, Faith Auvil and Kolenich placed runner-up in the shuttle hurdle relays.
The Elkins girls were second with 56 points, followed by Lewis County (51).
Joseph Tomasula had a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash (55.46) and was second in the 200 (24.83) for the Bucs, while Christian Dittman captured the long jump with a leap of 18-01.25.
Earning second-place finishes for B-U were Andrew Nesselroade in the 100 (11.54), Brian Kaubisch in the 800 (2:23.69), Evan Roylance in the 300 hurdles (47.06) and Drew Griffith in the long jump (16-09.50) and Tyler Sandreth in the high jump (5-02).
In the relay events, the Bucs placed first in the 4x200 (Tomasula, Griffith, Roylance and Jeremiah Nicola) in a time of 1:39.75 and second in the 4x400 (Roylance, Nesselroade, Dittman and Dominic Rodrique), 4x800 (Rondo Caesar, Dash Davis, Alex McCoy and Boe Masterman) and shuttle hurdle.
Elkins finished with 74 points to take team honors, while Lewis County tallied 51.
Both B-U teams are scheduled to take part in the Herbert Hoover Invitational at 3 p.m. today.
