TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur boy’s and girl’s track teams opened their season with a dual meet against Elkins last Tuesday at the high school.
The boys defeated Elkins by a 93-36 score while the girls won easily, 86-46.
The boys picked up 12 victories, nine individual and three relays.
Earning individual wins for the Bucs were Joseph Tomasula in the 200-meter dash, Sterlin Thropp in the 400-meter dash, Damien Claypool in the 110-meter hurdles, Dakota Smith in the 300-meter hurdles, Logan Leigh in the high jump, Julius Hobbs in the pole vault, Zach Barcus in the long jump, Jordan Weston in the shot put and Dash Davis in the discus throw.
The Bucs won three relay events – the 4 x 100-meter, the 4 x 400-meter and the 4 x 100-meter shuttle hurdle.
On the girls side, the Lady Bucs won nine individual events and two relay events.
Iris Kolenich recorded three wins in the 100 meter hurdles, the 300-meter hurdles and the high jump while Makenzi Lewellyn claimed two events, the 400-meter dash and the pole vault. McKenzie Reynolds won the 800-meter run, Molly Fox claimed in the 1600-meter run, Catherine Oliveto was victorious in the long jump, Kaitlyn Luterek won in the shot put and Cameron Zuliani was tops in the discus throw.
The two Lady Buc relay teams that won were the 4 x 400-meter and the 4 x 102.5 meter shuttle hurdle.
The Bucs were scheduled to compete this past Friday in the 11-team while the Lady Bucs were slated to compete in the 15-team Herbert Hoover Invitational this past Saturday.
Both teams will compete again this Tuesday at the high school.
