BUCKHANNON — The Buckhannon-Upshur Rotary Club hosted a special guest at their last meeting on Tuesday, September 6. The meeting was held at noon in Engle Hall of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Buckhannon.
Alan Hager, President of the Buckhannon-Upshur Rotary Club was honored to have special guest Dan McCarthy present at their last Rotary meeting. McCarthy serves as the District Governor of Rotary District 7545. Tina Cunningham was also present and serves as the Assistant Governor.
During the meeting, McCarthy spoke about Rotary. Hager said that “Dan highlighted the fact that Rotarians are part of 1.4 million people making an impact around the world and in local communities. The global impact of Rotary is seen in numerous projects focusing on health and development, but especially in Rotary’s work to eradicate Polio worldwide. He centered his reflections on the recently installed President of Rotary International Jenifer Jones’ theme for the year- Imagine. Jennifer is the first woman to hold the position of President for Rotary International.”
It was also noted that McCarthy commented on his own experience as a Rotarian and how it relates to the vision of Rotary which is to “see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change- across the globe, in our communities and in ourselves.” McCarthy’s bio information was also shared revealing that he had a 38-year career in the United States Navy in addition to running a consulting firm. McCarthy was noted “to have moved to West Virginia where being in Rotary Club enabled him serve his community while building friendships with others.”
Hager noted that Rotary District 7545 comprises the majority of the state of West Virginia and that “as District Governor Dan supports the work of these clubs including the Buckhannon-Upshur Rotary Club.”
