B-U girls and boys swimmers best Philip Barbour on Senior Night

Squads get a finale tune-up before Big 10 and regional championships

BUCKHANNON — The Buckhannon-Upshur girls and boys swimmers defeated Philip Barbour Saturday night at the West Virginia Wesleyan College pool.

The dual meet was a late addition to the schedule after the Penguin Invitational was called off last Saturday.

Four seniors were honored on the night. The group included Brooke Newcome, Ivy Ward, Kailyn Bosley and Shelby Daugherty.

The Lady Bucs defeated Philip Barbour, 166-68, while the Buccaneer boys claimed a 120-71 victory.

Earning first places for the Lady Bucs were Bosley in the 200 freestyle (2:30.48) and 500 freestyle (6:40.93), Newcome in the 200 IM (2:40.87) and 50 freestyle (28.60), Merrody Malone in the 100 butterfly (1:18.84), Madi Shepherd in the 100 freestyle (1:01.78) and 100 backstroke (1:14.19), Jenny Williams in the 100 breaststroke (1:22.82)

Ward, Shepherd, Bosley and Newcome captured the 200 medley relay in a time of 2:12.39 and the foursome of Sarah Cunningham, Olivia Caynor, McKenzie Reynolds and Daugherty took the 400 freestyle relay (4:58.24).

Garrett Butler in the 200 freestyle (2:22.51), Florian Cramer in the 200 IM (2:24.90) and 500 freestyle (5:55.75), Will Sparks in the 50 freestyle (24.91), Drew Griffith in the 100 butterfly (1:13.26), Dane Ammons in the 100 backstroke (1:26.70).

Sparks, Cade Garrett, Sam Squires and Cramer won the 400 freestyle relay with an effort of 4:22.26.

B-U will return to action Saturday in the Big 10 Conference Championships to take at WVWC this Saturday at 3 pm.

The Class AAA, Region 1 Championships will be held Feb. 3 at Wesleyan at 3 p.m.
