B-U boys and girls booters fall at Senior

FAIRMONT — Class AA-A, top-ranked Fairmont Senior claimed a 5-0 win over Buckhannon-Upshur Tuesday night in Big 10 Conference action.
The Bucs are now 5-3-3 overall and 4-1-1 in Big 10 play. They were slated to remain on the road Thursday at defending Class AA-A state champion East Fairmont.
The Polar Bears, now 12-0 on the season, jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first half and added two more goals after intermission.
Isaa Swiger recorded a hat trick for Fairmont Senior, while Seth Stilgenbauer and Corey Payne added scores.
Logan Kelley tallied seven saves in goal for B-U, which was outshot, 12-4.
“Fairmont Senior was without a doubt one of the most solid, complete teams we’ve seen all year,” Buccaneer coach Mike Donato said. “They were able to transition quickly from back to front and were able to sustain an attack with less numbers.
“I do give most of our guys credit for playing hard and not quitting.”

Fairmont Senior 3, B-U 0
FAIRMONT — Fairmont Senior used a goal in the first minute and tacked on two insurance ones early in the second half to hand the Lady Bucs a 3-0 setback.
Hanna Floyd scored in the first minute for the Lady Polar Bears (10-2), while Tricia LeMasters and Floyd tallied scores in the first 15:00 of the second half.
“We came out so flat at the beginning of the game,” said B-U coach Jackie Zuliani. “We didn’t step to any balls, lacked hustle and had poor touch and passing. The two goals we gave up [in the second half] were mistakes we don’t normally make, leaving a player unmarked in the box.”
“I have to give Fairmont Senior credit. They are a very good team and should go far into the postseason.”
B-U is now 5-4-2 overall and 4-2-1 in Big 10 tames. The Lady Bucs visited East Fairmont on Thursday for another league game.
