TENNERTON — The Buckhannon-Upshur High School girls lacrosse team will start their preseason competing in the Polar Meltdown at West Virginia Wesleyan College Saturday March 9 starting at 7:30 am with two teams and three scrimmages a piece.
The Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School Little Lady Buc lacrosse team will play in their own Meltdown on Sunday morning March 10 with the West Virginia Wesleyan women’s lacrosse team taking on Mercyhurst University at 2 p.m.
The middle school and high school Meltdowns are free for the public to attend.
The Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Bucs will start their 2019 regular season campaign against the University Hawks Monday, March 18th in non-division action.
Game time is set for 6:30 p.m. at University High School in Morgantown.
B-U will have to replace their leading scorer from last year, Megan Long, who transferred from B-U.
Junior Haylee Rice and senior Summer Aguiar look to lead the B-U offense.
Others to see action on offense are returners Makenzi Lewellyn, Emileigh Ryan, Tiffany Williams and freshman Miranda Greene.
First Team All-State defender from last season, junior Kennedi Lewellyn, will lead the defense at wing defender along with senior Mya Tenney.
Honorable Mention All-State senior Jamie Lantz, Honorable Mention All-State and junior Xyndra Pugh will man the crease defenders.
Veteran defender Junior Amber Powers has moved to goalie this year.
The Lady Bucs will look to 17 incoming freshmen to contribute on the field as well.
Second-year head coach Jamie Greene will try to return the Lady Bucs to the WVSLA West Division playoffs as they lost in the first round of the playoffs last year to eventual state runner-up University 9-3.
