Attempted murder suspect arrested in Upshur County

BUCKHANNON — Upshur County Sheriff’s Department finally located and arrested a local man wanted for attempted murder out of Lewis County on Tuesday, January 25 after evading police for almost eight months.

James Everrett Hovis, 36, of Rock Cave, is currently held at Tygart Valley Regional Jail without bond. The Lewis County Grand Jury indicted Hovis on attempted murder and malicious assault, one count each.

According to a release from the Upshur County Sheriff’s Department, the defendant hiding in the bedroom closet of a residence in southern Upshur County. Chief Deputy Mike Coffman, Sergeant Theron Caynor, Sergeant Rodney Rolenson, Deputy Tyler Chidester and Deputy Tanner Collins were all present during the arrest.

The release stated that Hovis was arrested without incident on two Lewis County felony capias warrants as well as a bailpiece.
