BUCKHANNON — Upshur County residents looking for a salon in downtown Buckhannon have a new option.
Ashbrooke Salon is located at 32 S. Kanawha St., across from Speedway and beside Dominos Pizza. The business has been open for almost two months now, and co-owners/sisters Carol Long and Ashley Loftin say their goal is to treat customers with kindness and respect.
“We’ve always been interested in hair, makeup and beauty,” Carol said.
Previously in school to be a nurse and a lawyer, Carol and Ashley realized they could instead make a living doing what they’ve always loved to do together.
“My parents are small business owners as well, and really pushed us to go through with this,” Carol said.
In the long run, they plan to fill two more chairs and hire a nail technician, but overall, they want to keep their focus on being a small business with loyal customers. This is one of the reasons they chose to start their own salon together.
“Being from Elkins, we aren’t really familiar with the other salons here, except for what customers come in and tell us. What separates us from the others, though, is how we treat our clients,” Carol said. “I think the most important part of keeping loyal customers is being sure to be kind to them.”
The sisters specialize in haircuts, coloring, highlights, waxing, makeup and formal looks. These services are available Tuesday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Saturdays until 1 p.m.
