American Legion, Upshur County Senior Center to host services for veterans

BUCKHANNON —The American Legion Post 7 and the Upshur County Senior Center will be hosting an event for veterans. The event is free and will aid veterans in enrollment services including VA (Veterans Administration) Health Care as well as to help with filing of VA claims. 

Post 7 Commander Mike Wallace shared, that on Wednesday, September 14, the Upshur County Senior Center and American Legion Post 7 in Buckhannon will have a Veterans Administration enrollment officer to assist veterans in acquiring VA healthcare services. The officer will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to enroll people. 

Wallace said, “If you or a veteran you know isn’t enrolled all you need to bring is your DD-214 and a photo ID. This is a free service. If you have been rejected from enrollment in the past stop by because due to recent changes you may now be eligible. Remember every case is different and you need to check and not assume it hasn’t changed! Post 7 personnel will be on hand to assist with any questions you might have regarding other issues.”

Another event will be held on Saturday, September 17 in which the DAV (Disabled American Veterans) and American Legion Post 7 to help anyone wishing to file a VA claim. This event will be held at the Legion home located at 16 South Kanawha Street. 

“Two VA certified claims officers will be available from 10 a.m. to assist in filing claims with the Veterans Administration. This is a free service, you need only to bring your DD-214 and any supporting documentation for your claim. There will be a private setting for you to discuss and file your claim. If you have a claim already filed and have heard nothing for a good while, stop in as we may be able to get you an update.”
