BUCKHANNON — Effective at 10:00 a.m. Monday morning, the Upshur County Commission voted during an emergency meeting to once again limit access to the Upshur County Courthouse and other county facilities, with the exception of Curry Library’s Virtual Learning Program. The Courthouse will be open during normal business hours, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4 p.m., for essential business only.
This decision was based off the West Virginia Department of Education’s School Alert System Map, which designated Upshur County as “Red,” on Sunday, October 4. Moving forward, Commissioners will be making decisions based on the WVDE school map, which is released on Saturdays at 5 p.m. Court cases will continue as scheduled, unless notification is otherwise provided by the Courts.
If anticipating a visit to the Courthouse, the Commission is requesting patrons to call ahead in order to determine if your business is considered “essential.” Below is a list of helpful telephone numbers, as online and telephonic business is highly encouraged by Commissioners.
According to the WVDHHR website, Upshur County went “red” on Sunday; however, it moved back to “orange” by Monday, after no new cases were reported for the first time in a week.
“As always, the health and safety of county residents and employees are of utmost importance to the Upshur County Commission. Please rest assured that the Commission is actively monitoring this event and will release information to the press or via the DHSEM’s emergency notification system, WENS, if necessary,” stated the Commissioners. To sign up for WENS, text UpshurCoWVAlerts to 69310 or visit http://entry.inspironlogistics.com/upshur_wv/wens.cfm.
Upshur County reported 117 confirmed cases of COVID-19 Monday, including two probable and 55 active cases, according to the Upshur-Buckhannon Health Department.
