TENNERTON – Coming off a split double-header against John Marshall and St. Clairsville, the Buckhannon-Upshur High School Softball Team (4-4) turned their attention to their only game of the week against the East Fairmont Hornets.

Freshman Alyssa Abel shined at the plate for the Lady Bucs, hitting two home runs to drive in four runs leading Head Coach Levi Bender’s team to a 19-3 road win over East Fairmont this past Monday, April 4. Abel was bad news for the Hornets pitching staff every single time she came up to bat, going hard in the third and fourth innings and finishing the evening with a perfect 2-2 mark from the plate.

The Lady Bucs established their dominance right away, striking first when Brooklyn Robinson singled to drive in two runs. The Lady Bucs would head into the second inning up 4-1 after a strong start from their talented battery of home run threats.

The Lady Bucs line-up continued to produce at a very high level in the second inning, scoring 7 more runs to extend their lead to 11-3 at the end of two innings of play. The Lady Bucs’ big inning was fueled by doubles from freshman Taylor Spratt, Jansen Kimble and Kailey Hart. The Lady Bucs shut the Hornets out in the final two innings, sealing the deal on a huge road win to get their winning percentage back above 50%.

Kimble got the start as pitcher for the Lady Bucs. The right-hander showed true grit, determination and control bouncing back, after a rough outing against a talented John Marshall team, with a masterful game from the plate to collect the win. The sophomore pitcher only surrendered three runs on seven hits over the span of a complete four innings, sitting down three Hornet batters, while not walking any. Kimble was an instrumental part in shutting the Hornets down offensively for the final two innings.

The Lady Bucs will welcome the Philip Barbour Colts to town this coming Monday, April 11. The first pitch is slated to be thrown at 4:00 p.m. sharp.
