BUCKHANNON — On Wednesday evening at Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School, local 4-H leaders hosted a “4-H is your Ticket to Fun” drive-thru event.
Open to all Upshur County youth and families, participants had a chance to speak with members and learn more about their organization. 4-H volunteers and leaders passed out goodie bags containing several crafts, activities, flower seeds, and information regarding upcoming events.
Upshur County has a strong 4-H program, with seven clubs operating throughout the county. West Virginia reportedly has nearly 50,000 4-H members, and the United States has over 6.5 million! Upshur County 4-H leader and WVU Extension Agent Craig Presar described the organization as “the largest positive youth development organization in the world.” Presar works for the WVU Extension Office as their 4-H Agent, managing and overseeing Upshur County’s operations. He explained, “We’re always trying to work with the families and with the schools to raise successful adults.”
West Virginia 4-H members range in age from 9 years old to 21, and the organization is always actively seeking volunteers of all ages for a large assortment of civic projects and duties.
